The United States is losing its grip on the cutting edge of robotics research, concludes a study conducted by the World Technology Evaluation Center. American scientists continue to lead the pack in examining the military and aeronautical applications of robotics, the report says, but they’re falling behind their Asian and European counterparts in other areas.
The report’s authors sounded a familiar theme. The U.S. government, they say, isn’t devoting much money or attention to developing technology research. For example, while South Korea spends $80-million annually on robotics research, the National Science Foundation now devotes less than $10-million a year to the field. (Wired News)
