The Computer-Game Canon

History majors have to read Thucydides. Art-history students need to know the difference between a Raphael and a Titian. So why shouldn’t budding video-game designers have their own canon of great works?

In courses like the University of Georgia’s "Introduction to Game Programming," students are schooled in the formative classics of their genre — titles like Pong, Asteroid, and Space Invaders. Those classic arcade games might seem like relics now, but they still have plenty to teach students, say some professors. (The Red and Black)
