Students at the University of Dayton don’t want to look over their shoulders when they post on Facebook, so they’re taking steps to protect their digital turf. Student-government officials have drafted a resolution asking administrators not to penalize students based solely on material gathered from the social-networking site.
Several colleges — including, most recently, Princeton University — have adopted policies that prohibit campus police officers from browsing Facebook but let them use the site to seek evidence about specific student infractions. But Wade Luckett, a student senator who helped draft the resolution, says students at Dayton needed to take "a proactive stance" to ensure that campus officials thought seriously about their stance on Facebook.
