Most college students who blog do so as a labor of love — or as a way of keeping in touch with friends and family. But for one lucky college-student blogger, writing on the Web will soon become a lucrative proposition.
A group called Scholarships Across the U.S. has promised a $5,000-a-year scholarship to a student whose blogging is deemed exceptional among his or her peers. The 10 finalists for the scholarship have already been selected, and they cut a wide swath across the Web: Kambiz Kamrani runs Anthropology.net, an online portal for scholars and students. Matthew Himler contributes to AOL’s Blogging Stocks site. And Stephen Yellin, known online as “MrLiberal,” is a diarist on Daily Kos, the popular liberal blog. —Brock Read
