Staying Outside of the Pod

September 8, 2005, 2:40 pm

Tech-savvy professors may rhapsodize about the power of podcasting, but many college students seem to be only dimly aware that the technology exists. And those who are familiar with podcasts aren’t necessarily enamored of them.

Why haven’t more undergraduates—who are among the most voracious users of portable music players—warmed to the technology? Perhaps because podcast collections like Apple’s iTunes archive don’t include many programs that pique students’ interest. "Apparently the thought of listening to ‘Ebert and Roeper’ on the treadmill isn’t as student-friendly as the media giants anticipated," writes The Diamondback, the University of Maryland at College Park’s student newspaper.
