Shooting Worms on Sight

Researchers at Pennsylvania State University at University Park say they've developed a tool to thwart one of the Web's worst scourges — computer worms that try to spread at breakneck speeds.

The technology works by using the worms' speed against them: It analyzes Internet activity, searching for anomalies in data transfer, and moves to contain suspicious software within milliseconds, according to the Associated Press. –Brock Read
