Is Louisiana State University throwing students suspected of file-sharing under the proverbial bus in order to protect itself from potential lawsuits? Some lawyers and students think so.
They have objected to the university’s method for dealing with the cease-and-desist orders it receives from the music and movie industries—a policy that requires students either to sign documents admitting to copyright violations, or to face disciplinary action from the dean of students. Critics of that policy say industry lawyers could easily subpoena LSU for those documents and then use them as evidence against student defendants. (The Daily Reveille)
