Electronic Arts Inc., the maker of popular video games like The Sims, has settled a dispute with a group of past and present employees — and several colleges may end up reaping the benefits of the deal.
EA has agreed to pay $14.9-million to the employees, who alleged in a class-action lawsuit that the company owed them a great deal of overtime pay. Company officials have earmarked unclaimed portions of the settlement fund to six institutions — Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, and Stanford Universities, Georgia Technical Institute, and Morehouse and Spelman Colleges — to provide scholarships for female and minority students interested in studing gaming.
