Robots Take Baby Steps

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology say their new project is a leap forward for robotry—even if the end product looks more like a half-finished children’s toy than R2D2. The robot, named "Toddler," takes only 20 minutes to learn to walk like a human, complete with springing leg muscles and swinging arms. Just like a toddler, the robot develops its gait through trial and error.
