A recently released academic study concludes that computer ownership harms the music industry. Ars Technica reports that in a paper titled "The Impact of Digital File Sharing on the Music Industry: An Empirical Analysis," Norbert J. Michel, an assistant professor of business administration at Nicholls State University, in Louisiana, concludes that before 2004, at least, there was a correlation between owning a computer and spending less on music CD’s.—Andrea L.
