Cornell University is shaking up its high-performance-computing center and promising that faculty members will get more free services.
Last Friday, what used to be the Cornell Theory Center got a new name, the Cornell University Center for Advanced Computing, and a new place in the university. The center will now report to the office of the vice provost for research. Previously the campus computing hub was part of the Faculty of Computing and Information Science.
Charles R. Fay, vice provost for research administration, says the center will get more money to make its services cheaper for professors. "Faculty can walk in the door and use a range of services, from consulting to data storage to computing time, and some of those services will be provided free," he said in a written statement. –Josh Fischman
