Edward Felten, a renowned computer-science professor at Princeton University, announced on his blog last week that he will not be buying the much-hyped iPhone, the gadget sold by Apple that combines features of a cellphone, iPod, camera, and Web browser.
He says he's impressed by the screen resolution and by the e-mail and Safari applications on the device. Still, Web pages took too long to download when using the AT&T cellular data network, Mr. Felten says. But the bottom line is that the iPhone is just about useless unless one signs up for a two-year AT&T cellular plan, "which I'm not about to do," he concludes. –Andrea L. Foster
