Hollywood’s campaign against campus movie piracy has traversed the Atlantic (and, for what it’s worth, the Mediterranean): Officials with NBC Universal have sent a letter to the University of Haifa, in Israel, asking that a student be punished for allegedly downloading a pirated film.
In the letter, NBC Universal said that it had no plans to press charges against the university, according to YNet News. But the studio suggested that campus officials take “appropriate action” against the suspected thief.
The university has now sent a message to the student, warning him that piracy violates Israeli and international law.
