Pick a Grade

September 26, 2006, 8:54 am

Pick-A-Prof, a company that publishes online reviews of faculty members, has been tussling with universities as it seeks to obtain the grading histories of their professors. And the company seems to be winning, with the University of California agreeing recently to hand over such records.

Some critics argue that publishing such information will increase grade inflation, but Karen Bragg, the company’s director of university relations, said that argument doesn’t give students enough credit.

“By posting this information, we’ve not seen a dramatic drop in enrollment in professors that give extremely lower grades,” she said. “Having this information available has not drastically changed one department’s grading patterns that we know of.” For more information, see The Chronicle’s full coverage.

Would you object to having your grading history published?
