Opening Up to Open Source?

April 7, 2006, 12:39 pm

Microsoft will never be best buddies with members of the open-source-software movement, but the company appears to be softening its stance. On a new Web site, called Port 25, the company is attempting to start a dialogue with customers who combine Microsoft software and open-source programs.

The site — which lets members of Microsoft’s Linux labs blog about their recent work — could be a sign that the company is slowly moving to adopt a more collaborative approach to research and development. Or it could just be a savvy PR move. It shouldn’t be hard to guess which viewpoint is more prevalent among open-source programmers. (CNET News)
