Sun Microsystems is hoping that open-source computing will make for good business. In recent months the company has made some of its new software available to outside programmers, and now it has dedicated an entire department to open-source strategizing.
The department’s first head, Simon Phipps, says he will spend his time coordinating free-software projects and acting as an ombudsman for complaints from the open-source community. (CNET News)
