One Laptop Per Child Arrives in Uruguay

As Nicholas Negroponte’s One Laptop Per Child project revs up, we’re starting to hear more stories from schools in developing regions that have already handed out the low-cost computers. Here’s a report from Villa Cardal, a small Uruguayan town, courtesy of Engadget.

About 160 schoolchildren in Villa Cardal got the bright-green laptops, and the machines were greeted with a “mild frenzy,” Engadget reports. The blog also links to a gallery of pictures taken during the big laptop giveaway. —Brock Read
