Entertainment-industry groups are continuing to press members of Congress to get tough with colleges about the illegal trading of music and videos files on campuses.
The Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America sent a letter this month to members of the education committees in the Senate and the U.S House of Representatives urging them to support language in a House bill that would goad colleges
“Colleges students have access to powerful campus networks, and are capable of downloading and distributing thousands of songs and entire movies in a very short period of time,” the letter stated. “These high-tech networks often funded directly or indirectly at public expense, exist to facilitate learning and research, yet have unfortunately become the pipeline for illegal file transfers.”
