Northern Kentucky U. Cuts Piracy By Accident

A mailroom error may have helped Northern Kentucky University treat its file-sharing epidemic.

In November campus officials decided to send cease-and-desist notices to a handful of students who had been accused of piracy by record industry lawyers, but the accusatory letters were accidentally sent to every student on campus. That proved to be an effective scare tactic: Administrators report that file swapping seems to have tailed off.
