WorldCat, the world’s largest bibliographic database, will expand to include records about articles from the Modern Language Association and from the publisher, H.W. Wilson, according to a statement released Wednesday by OCLC. The nonprofit group promotes technology in libraries and owns WorldCat.
The move is apparently meant to promote libraries’ holdings on the Web. “By making these resources available through the WorldCat platform, Web searchers will be better able to find what they need, when and where they need it from libraries through the Web,” Chip Nilges, vice president for business development at OCLC, says in the statement.
OCLC also cited this goal when it announced last month that it had formed a partnership with Google to swap data.—Andrea L. Foster
