Students at Ohio University’s College of Education were none too thrilled when three local bookstores told them they were required to buy a $120 computer program. And they may be even less pleased now: Campus officials have said that the software is mandatory only in a few classes, and that the bookstores erred in stating otherwise.
The software, called LiveText, helps colleges track the progress of students as they create portfolios of their work. Since education-school officials could use that information to aid in the university’s accreditation hearings, some students have suggested that Ohio should foot the bill. (The Athens News)
