The online-poker boom is showing no signs of abating, and college students are doing their part to fuel the industry. According to a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, 26 percent of college men — an estimated 1.6 million students — gamble in online card games at least once a month.
But for every student who makes enough money to pay bills or build a nest egg, there are several gamblers playing over their heads and bleeding cash. And despite a few high-profile incidents in which students have racked up massive gambling debts, most colleges have done little to curb students’ online-poker playing. (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
