The American Library Association has started a Web site listing any available news about the fate of libraries in the path of Hurricane Katrina. The library at Jackson State University, in Mississippi, reportedly operated as a makeshift shelter during the storm. But beware of post-storm hysteria and rumor: A snippet from Vanderbilt’s student paper, listed on the site, says the basement of Rhodes College’s new library is flooded. Lynne Blair, director of the library at Rhodes, says that’s not true. "We had some window leaks, and that was it," she says. "I have no idea where they got that."
