If imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, then Alex Tew must be feeling pretty puffed up these days. Mr. Tew, a student at the University of Nottingham, in England, earned 15 minutes of fame — and $1-million — with a get-rich-quick scheme called the Million Dollar Home Page. Over the past several months, about 100 copycat sites, each selling pixels of advertising space on an empty grid, have popped up.
College students — reasoning, like Mr. Tew, that they could use some help paying off loans — are behind many of the new sites. One of the latest to join the party, Own Online Real Estate, is the brainchild of a trio of college students from Miami. (The Gainesville Sun)
