July 23, 2007, 3:19 pm

Hewlett-Packard’s Worldwide Higher Education Philanthropy just announced its 2007 Higher Education Leadership grant recipients. Ten campuses will each receive about $120,000 in cash and equipment — i.e. computers — for a variety of projects. Some of the winners:

—Diablo Valley College, in California, for redesigning calculus courses to take advantage of tablet PC’s and boost retention rates and grades.

—Seattle University, in Washington, for using tablets in cooperative learning groups, focusing on visualizations and animations to increase student engagement.

—Montgomery County Community College, in Pennsylvania, for creating mobile problem-solving teams, which share ideas and brainstorm by passing documents marked up in “digital ink” back and forth. —Josh Fischman
