Nicholas Negroponte, co-founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, has stepped down to focus on his plan to produce affordable laptops for children in developing countries.
Since its founding, in 1985, the lab had examined a number of technological innovations—like mesh networks and wearable computers—and has set up outposts in Europe and Asia. But more recently, Mr. Negroponte has turned his attention to One Laptop Per Child, a nonprofit group that is working to develop portable, windup computers.
Frank Moss, who founded the software companies Bowstreet and Tivoli Systems, will replace Mr. Negroponte at the Media Lab. (CNET News)
