The results are in from the recent Spelman College Computer Science Olympiad, in which teams representing eight historically black colleges and universities competed. Based on its performance in five events—cryptography, Web-site design, programming, robotics, and hard/software integration—a Hampton University team was declared the champion.
The competition was sponsored by Unisys, the National Science Foundation, Google, and Microsoft, according to the Olympiad’s Web site. The host institution, Spelman, is an Atlanta college for black women. Its faculty members have been trying to encourage minority students to study computer science. —Catherine Rampell
