Students at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities won’t be rushing to Amazon or Best Buy to secure copies of Vista, Microsoft’s new operating system. Their campus bookstore, after all, will be selling upgrades for a song.
Thanks to a $760,000 deal with Microsoft, the University will be able to sell Vista upgrades to PC owners who already run Windows for $8 a pop — a pretty significant discount off the software’s regular price tag, which runs from $199 to $399. Anyone enrolled in a Minnesota course with a legal, earlier version of Windows will be eligible for the discount, according to The Minnesota Daily. —Brock Read
