As the ranks of online learners continue to grow, Internet-based colleges are slowly earning some respect. Institutions like Strayer University and the University of Phoenix may not have achieved the same academic reputation as nonprofit colleges but have gained more acceptance, particularly among adult learners, as legitimate enterprises—in part, experts say, because so many nonprofit institutions have developed online courses of their own.
