A computer science degree doesn’t have the allure it used to—at least not with college students looking for lucrative careers. The ranks of computer-science majors nationally have dropped 28 percent since 2000, according to a survey by the Computing Research Association, and at some colleges, the drop has been even more drastic. Colorado State University, for example, has only half as many computer-science students as it did five years ago. Administrators blame outsourcing fears and economic woes for dissuading students from studying technology.
