For college students, Thefacebook.com is invaluable for learning about classmates and socializing with friends. For unscrupulous reporters, though, the site can be an invitation to laziness.
A pair of writers for the Reidsville Review, a small newspaper in North Carolina, have apparently used Thefacebook to forge entries for "Two Cents Worth," a daily feature in the paper in which "the man on the street" is asked simple questions. The reporters, both recent graduates from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, browsed through Thefacebook for old college friends, copied pictures from the friends’ profiles, and attributed fake quotes to them.
The content of the fake quotes was mostly innocuous, although one woman, who "told" the paper that she was a Dave Matthews Band fan, has pointed out that she is "more of a solo-artist-type girl." (News & Record)
