Brian L. Hawkins, the chief executive officer and founding president of Educause, announced today that he will retire from the education-technology group at the end of the next academic year.
Prior to running Educause, Mr. Hawkins held administrative posts at Brown and Drexel Universities and the University of Texas at San Antonio. But the outgoing president “truly plans to retire,” according to a press statement, not to return to the academy.
Educause’s board of directors has already appointed a presidential search committee, to be led by David Smallen, vice president for information technology at Hamilton College. The committee expects to pick a new president by the fall of 2007. —Brock Read
