College students certainly aren't afraid of technology, and they hate paying a lot for textbooks. So why aren't they buying e-books instead?
Companies that sell e-books aren't quite sure, according to an article in The Miami Herald. "Publishers are having a hard time figuring out what they need to do" to make the technology catch on, says Bill McKenna, director of digital products at Follett, which offers about 1,000 titles as e-books.
Analysts cite a few factors that have stunted the development of the digital-book industry. For one thing, there's still no generally accepted, standard file format for e-books. For another, since the books are sold online, not in campus bookstores, many students may not even know that buying digital titles is an option. –Brock Read
