Philip K. Dick, the famed science-fiction writer, spent much of his career conjuring up images of robots. Now, thanks to some tech-savvy (and possibly obsessive) fans, he’s getting a chance to become one.
The Philip K. Dick robot, built by researchers at the University of Memphis and the University of Texas at Austin, boasts advanced artificial intelligence, speech-recognition skills, and a lifelike face. The robot should be able to recognize people and carry on conversations—although it probably won’t share Dick’s penchant for experiencing odd visions.
