Administrators at the University of Colorado at Boulder hope to tackle concerns about identity theft head-on—by teaching students how to protect their personal information online. In March the university will inaugurate a series of monthly data-security seminars with a discussion of spyware.
But campus officials would likely admit that there’s only so much students can do to guard their own data: In October, the university’s computer network was hacked, exposing the personal information of about 1,000 continuing-education enrollees.
