A new report calls on the federal government to better coordinate its cybersecurity research-and-development efforts across various agencies. The National Science and Technology Council, a cabinet-level council of the executive branch, published its findings Monday in a report called the Federal Plan for Cyber Security and Information Assurance Research and Development.
The 135-page report makes several recommendations, which include creating a line item specifically for cybersecurity in several agencies’ budgets, building security within new technology as it is developed instead of creating security patches later on, and working more closely with the private sector. Public comment on the report can be sent to csia-plan-comments@nitrd.gov.
