Computer-Security Breach Prompts U. of Iowa to Ask for an Audit

January 30, 2007, 4:17 pm

In the wake of a recent network-security breach, the University of Iowa has asked state auditors to examine computer practices at the campus hospital, The Des Moines Register reports.

The university, which began investigating the breach in December, has released few details. Campus officials said only that a university employee had "violated Iowa's policy on acceptable use of information," according to the Register. It appears that the unnamed employee had viewed documents stored on the computer of John Colloton, the hospital's former director.

There's no word on whether the state will agree to conduct the audit. –Brock Read
