In an effort to punch up their computer-science programs, a number of colleges are creating courses in digital forensics, a relatively nascent study that has made headlines of late.
With federal law-enforcement officials pushing to expand their digital-eavesdropping rights and using high-tech tools to track child pornographers, digital forensics is certainly a hot field. But college professors — mindful, perhaps, of the success of CBS’s CSI franchise — may also see the foray into forensics as a way to arrest dwindling enrollment in computer-science classes.
