Walter R. Magnussen Jr., telecommunications director at Texas A&M University, is the new president of the Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education.
The group, which represents about 2,000 people at 770 institutions of higher education, focuses on networking and communication, which are becoming an increasingly important part of the campus IT environment.
The association announced the selection today at the close of its annual meeting in Hollywood, Fla. Mr. Magnussen has worked on building distance-education networks in many countries, and has also led voice-over-Internet efforts for the Internet2 advanced research network. —Josh Fischman
