Cdigix, established as a free music-download service for colleges, says it is getting out of the music business to concentrate on academic-technology services instead.
“As we looked at the marketplace, we feel like we’ve been offering a nice-to-have service, and we really want to be in the business of offering a must-have service,” said Brett Goldberg, the company’s executive vice president and founder. “This was not a decision we made hastily.”
But some college officials say the news comes as an unpleasant surprise. Cdigix plans to shut down its music service by the end of April at most colleges, and may even shut down services for some institutions within the next month. Read the full story.
