The University of Iowa’s WiderNet Project — a nonprofit effort to improve Internet access in Africa’s developing nations — is planning to expand its reach to countries like Bangladesh, Haiti, and India.
Since its founding in 2001, the project has provided hardware and computer training to about two dozen African universities and a number of secondary schools. The program has employed over 50 Iowa students, many of whom have traveled to nations like Nigeria and Uganda. (The Daily Iowan)
