It sounds like a prop from an bibliophile’s fantasy: A vending machine that dispenses books instead of Clark bars or Mr. Pibb. But in Paris, it’s now a reality. Maxi-Livres, a publishing house that specializes in budget books, has installed five of the machines, each outfitted with 25 different titles, around town.
The books all cost $2.45, and they cover a fairly wide range of topics. A French-English dictionary and a couscous cookbook bump up against selections from Homer and Baudelaire. (Associated Press)
