BitTorrent, the influential file-sharing software that has become particularly popular with video swappers, has inked a distribution deal with one of Hollywood’s leading movie studios.
Warner Bros. Entertainment Group will use the software as a vehicle for delivering films and TV shows online, the companies are expected to announce today. The deal appears to be the first such arrangement between a Hollywood studio and a peer-to-peer company — and it would seem to cement BitTorrent officials’ claim that their software does not endorse piracy, unlike the Groksters and KaZaAs of the world.
