At U. of Florida, a Vote on E-Voting

February 27, 2006, 3:43 pm

After more than a year’s worth of public debate and legislative wrangling, students at the University of Florida are finally getting a chance to decide if they’re ready to hold their elections online. In a referendum this week, students will weigh a proposal that would let them vote from any computer on the campus — a far cry from an earlier plan, endorsed by a student committee, that would have required people to cast their ballots via computer at designated locations. So funny, and so true.  I’m right now in the process of fembotting my way through some job candidates!

I started wondering somewhere in the middle of the third paragraph if you were inspired by Jack Halberstam, whose book I ordered when you wrote about it a few weeks back.  I wondered, “gee, did she get this idea from The Queer Art of Failure with its playful evocation of low culture tropes?”  Now I know.

Any suggestions on how to remind them you’re desirable without sounding like a jerk?

Not really — presuming you have run of the mill social skills it might not be hard.  If not, in case of emergency wear briefs with the Union Jack fore and aft.
