The now-infamous Danish newspaper cartoons satirizing Muhammad seem to have an inexhaustible ability to cause controversy — whether in the Middle East, in Europe, or in East Lansing, Mich. On Tuesday about a dozen Muslim students at Michigan State University showed up at a protest against SpartanEdge, a student-run news Web site, which had posted the controversial cartoons online. SpartanEdge staffers defended their decision in an online editorial that accused American media outlets, most of which have declined to run the images, of willfully withholding the material from the public. Web surfers who read the editorial, meanwhile, have sparred over whether the publication was taking a bold stand or acting rashly.
