For anyone who still needs proof that courts are forced to make up Internet law as they go along, here's a bizarre civil case: A Pennsylvania lawyer is suing Linden Lab, the maker of the popular online world Second Life, for confiscating thousands of dollars worth of his virtual property.
The lawyer, Marc Bragg — who is known on Second Life as "Marc Woebegone" — says that Linden Lab shut his account down after a digital land deal went awry. Second Life is rare among virtual communities in that users legally own the content they create, and members typically pay up to a thousand dollars for plots of "land" in the digital world.
