A Public Entreaty From RIAA Head

May 3, 2005, 3:16 pm

Cary Sherman, president of the Recording Industry Association of America, is continuing his campaign to persuade colleges to ramp up their antipiracy policies. In a recent essay in a Pittsburgh newspaper, he called on Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh to "foster a climate where creativity is valued and respected" by installing filtering software on the campus network or signing a contract with a legal downloading service. In April, the RIAA sued 41 computer users at the two universities whom it accuses of file-sharing offenses. For more on the lawsuits, see an article from The Chronicle by Brock Read.
