After receiving a number of complaints about people using computers in the campus library to view pornography, librarians at Arizona State University decided they’d had enough: Last year they had Internet filters installed on all their machines that were accessible to the general public.
The tactic seems to have worked. During the semester before the filters were put in place, two people were arrested for viewing child pornography, but campus police have received no reports of similar offenses since then. General complaints about pornography also appear to have dropped, according to the police. The filters haven’t been especially controversial, either: Students who want unfiltered Web access can surf freely from machines restricted to people with campus IDs. (Web Devil)
