A scrappy team of paralegals-in-training from Elgin Community College beat a squad from Yale University in Harvard’s “Crimson Classic” mock-trial competition, according to a report by NBC Chicago.

The team from Elgin, Ill., which included a 30-year-old mother of three and a 55-year-old woman who is changing careers, beat Villanova and Yale, narrowly lost to Brown, and was beaten by Princeton in the final round. Brown went on to win the competition.

Elgin, which began fielding a team only two years ago, was a fill-in at the competition after another team scratched.
