Yale University’s School of Medicine is actively recruiting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer applicants for the first time. According to the Yale Daily News, the school has created a brochure aimed at those applicants, will include it in the packets for all applicants, and is considering adding a section to the application where students can identify their sexual orientation, as Elmhurst College did this year. Yale officials said the move was intended to increase diversity at the school, with a demographic group underrepresented as physicians. One official likened the effort to the school’s transition to coeducation a century ago.
